Banning Members
As an administrator, what is your point of view with banning members. Do you hesitate, do you warn them or do you just ban them?
I used to have a forum where I hesitated with banning members and wanted to be the nice moderator. What happened is that I hated the forum because of the people that where in it. In my new forum I tend to be more strict. If a member Advertises with PM, immediate ban. Member being stupid in the chat, he is banned from the chat. I tend to believe in second chances though, and usually just ban members for a week...

Re: Banning Members
I really hate banning them, I only ban people if they cross the line to much. Firstly i ban them for about 3 days, if then again it will be perm.. Unless it is really serious the it will just be Perma.
Re: Banning Members
I hate banning too, but I try to stick to the rules as much as possible so I won't pick favorites...
Re: Banning Members
i dont like banning because you loose active members. but sometimes it has to be done
Re: Banning Members
Depends their attitude, I usually in form people and see how it goes from there, if they don't cooperate i won't wait for the third strike, i give the temporal suspension.
but in my case most people genuinely ignored the rule or mistake they were doing and learned from it.

Re: Banning Members
I'm strict. Banning comes easily. I've had cases of double accounts recently. People making double accounts and advertising the same site and posting things in the wrong places and it really does annoy me so I thought I'd send a clear message out to my members you will be banned if you break the rules and started banning the rule breakers. I want my site to be a happy, clean, anti public spam forum!

Re: Banning Members
we think in almost the same way back then. the first time I became a moderator, I was so afraid to do moderation on members, like to give them a reminder or warning. though I did have the power, I had only got promoted and in fact had not yet familiar with my new power. I tended to be... 'merciful'. ^^"
but as time went by, I learned that there are some things that couldn't be tolerated at all, and if it was tolerated, it would only be repeated again or got even worse. when it comes to that kind of thing, I did not hesitate again.
I never dealt with heavy spammers. one spammer I ever had in my forum, I only deleted their single post and I didn't even ban them since they never returned.
here in AH I have given various reminders, warnings, and even bans. though I hate doing so, it's something I must do in order to protect the community.

Re: Banning Members
Depends on the rule. If they spam in chat, kick a few times before a day ban.
If they try to post graphic/innuendo then ban and investigate.
Nothing really goes wrong in my forum. Just one spammer that was banned.

Re: Banning Members
Yes in my first forum that I owned I didn't ban anyone in the 4 months I had the site. Even when I suspected an admin of hacking(he claimed he was hacked) I didn't ban him. I wish I had banned him, ended up ruining my forum but now if someone did that I'd have them banned, email banned,ip banned and ban anyone who I think helped them without thinking twice. When people noticed I wouldn't ban many people I got a whole wave of bad spam attacks on my forum and I got so frustrated and then I made another site and that was it for Mr.NiceGuy. I take heavy strict action. So no messing on my forum!phio69 wrote:we think in almost the same way back then. the first time I became a moderator, I was so afraid to do moderation on members, like to give them a reminder or warning. though I did have the power, I had only got promoted and in fact had not yet familiar with my new power. Re: Banning Members
When I first started making my forums, I said to myself as it gets bigger and more active, the rules would have to be stressed upon a little more.
That's how it goes. When you have little posts, you don't wanna be too harsh on them

Re: Banning Members
Agreed with Joel.
Basically I just go by the rules to take myself out of the equation. If someone has done something that the site rules indicate is worthy of a ban, then I ban them.

There's a easy solution, add that site to your word censor list.
That pisses them off more than ever and it'll prevent the double accounts.
Now in terms of banning, I'm a mix of strict and non-strict.
If someone forgets to put a picture with mild nudity in a spoiler code, I just simply edit the post. No harm done.
But if it's not mild nudity and a picture of something really sexual, I give them a warning, in some cases like with ero guro(pornographic picture, but with blood and gore and dismemberment of limbs), a ban.
In terms of swearing, it's fine by me, besides I censored some words I don't want to see on my forum.

I tend to give members a few tries...but if they do anything that is really mean, i will immediately ban them.

Re: Banning Members
It all depends on the situation. If it's severe, then immediate ban. But, if it's minor, a small infraction will do.
