Lil' Share Installation Tutorials: MyBB
Hello Lil' Share Advertise Hotspot!, it's me Bob, here with another tutorials on installing scripts! I will be teaching you how to install MyBB in plain English.
Step 1: Obtaining MyBB
You're gonna need to head over to MyBB and get their new 1.6. After downloading extract the file. Inside this file should be 2 folders, documentation, and upload. You can delete documentation because it is not needed. You're going to want to rename the upload folder to whatever you want to access it by. So if you want your MyBB to be located at YourDomain.com/forum you'll rename it to forum! If you're using an online host, most of the time they will be Linux based, so make sure that it is all lower-scae letters, as Linux IS case sensitive.
Step 2: Uploading
After you've renamed your upload folder, you're going to want to connect to your host's FTP server! Your host should have a document with all your ftp details. You're going to upload the upload folder to public_html. Once done, attempt to go to your upload folder by going to yourdomain.com/youruploadfoldername. If all went well, you should see an an error message. Don't worry, later in this tutorial, we'll fix that.
Step 3: Database management
You're going to go to your host's cPanel, and head into MySQL Management. You're now going to create a new database. I would call it forums or mybb. Fore the user, it can be anything you want, you'll only be using this information once. For the password I recommend randomly generating a password and saving it in a file for later. Once that is all done, you should copy the information it gives you after creating your database, you should have the DB name, DB host, DB user, and DB password.
Step 4: Installation
Unlike other scripts, MyBB is fairly easy to install. You're going to point your browser to the install directory of MyBB, so it should be yourdomain.com/mybbfolder/install. You're going to click next, and see a ToS, read the ToS and click next, then you'll see a message saying files are "Unwriteable." You're going to go back into FTP and "CHMOD" these files to "777." To CHMOD a file, you need to right c lick it and choose file permissions and change the file permissions to 777. After doing that refresh your web browser an it should say the files are writeable now. You're going to hit next again, then you're going to see the database configuration. You're going to fill in the boxes with your database information. Keep clicking next and fill out all the information it asks you to. Once you're all done head to your MyBB at mydomain.com/mybbfolder. It should tell you to delete the installation folder.
Step 5: The final part, deleting the install folder
Pretty simple, just head into ftp and into your mybb folder, and find install. Right click and choose delete, wait for it to delete. Once it's finished, head over to your forum and everything should be ready now!
