also, roleplaying would be a good idea... so make 2 forums. 1 for all roleplaying, 1 for character profiles so people don't have to make a profile for every RP

For the background, make sure it's dark because some people can't stand bright colored websites.

also, I suggest using chatango to make a chatroom so that you can easily set moderators without using the ACP

EDIT: getting a twitter page, facebook group, and myspace group will help your website grow aswell. so that's a good idea

EDIT2: Activating the image gallery is an awesome idea so people don't have to sign up for other image hosting websites.
Making a contest section will work well if you plan on having alot of contests
